Fur and fake fur: Okay or no-go?
Fur is one of the most controversial topics in the fashion industry. To start with: Even though we wear second hand leather we wouldn’t dare wearing fur, no matter if second hand or not. We wouldn’t want to support the wrong industries just to look nice.
And faux fur? Some people state that also these fluffy plush coats advertise “killing living creatures and wearing them around the neck”, even though these pieces of clothing don’t contain dead animals. So is it right to wear fake fur?
Plastic bottles to wear
There are several answers to this question out there; and we’ve visited forums, read those opinions and searched for answers. One of the most stated arguments is against the material; that these coats are made from plastic which is quite bad for the environment. Well, this is a legitimate point against fake fur as plastic is produced from petroleum, a non-renewable resource. But furthermore it is also a legitimate point against faux-leather, polyester clothes and pretty much every single piece of clothing out there (how many clothes are really synthetic-free?). By taking second-hand synthetic clothes you don’t have to use new mineral oil or chemicals for the production as you just take something already existing and use it again instead of throwing it away. For us the perfect solution and totally acceptable.
There is another way
Which leaves us with the advertising-argument and the statement of a fake-fur coat. But in our opinion it’s not a statement FOR the fur industry but against it: By wearing faux fur you show the world that it is possible to dress up chic and warm without wearing dead animals on your body. Which is another point FOR faux fur: It is warm without making you look like a Michelin-puppet but like a fluffy teddy bear everyone wants to cuddle.
So, what is your opinion on the topic? Let’s discuss in the comments!
